▶Physician-reviewed

Your plan is built by two licensed physicians.

Hair loss is a medical problem before it's a cosmetic one, so your plan is built by Dr. Scott Maymon, ND, MPH (AZ Naturopathic License #15-1497) and Dr. Sarah Stone, ND (AZ Naturopathic License #15-1496). Dr. Stone leads our work in women's hair loss, postpartum shedding, thyroid, low ferritin, perimenopause and autoimmune causes. Dr. Maymon leads men's pattern loss and the regenerative side, including scalp PRP. You'll be seen by a named, credentialed physician, not a technician following a protocol sheet.

▶What it is

Why your hair is thinning decides what will actually help.

Hair loss has a cause, and the cause decides the treatment. Androgenetic (pattern) hair loss is driven by hormones and genetics and needs a completely different approach than shedding triggered by a thyroid problem, low iron, a new medication, a stressful few months, childbirth, or perimenopause. Alopecia areata is autoimmune. Traction alopecia comes from tension. Scarring alopecias behave differently again.

In the mirror, most of these look the same: more hair in the drain, a part that keeps widening, a scalp that shows through under bright light. That's exactly why buying a treatment before you have an answer is a coin flip, and why the most common thing we hear is "I tried minoxidil for a few months and nothing much happened."

A naturopathic and functional-medicine practice is built for this question. We're looking for the mechanism, not just the symptom, and several of the most treatable causes of hair loss are things a blood panel will show plainly.

Pattern loss, thyroid disease, low ferritin, postpartum shedding and stress-driven telogen effluvium look nearly identical in the mirror, and every one of them responds to a different treatment.

▶What we offer

Hair loss treatments available in South Tempe.

A starting point, your physician chooses what fits your cause, your pattern and your goals, and treatments are often combined rather than used alone. Every option supports hair and scalp health for appropriate candidates.

PRP for the scalp

Your own platelets, concentrated from a small blood draw and injected into the scalp to support the follicles you still have. We use the Cellenis® PRP system. Done as a series; not appropriate for everyone.

Microneedling with PRP

Controlled micro-channels in the scalp paired with PRP, used to improve delivery and stimulate the treated area. This is scalp treatment, for the face, see microneedling facial rejuvenation.

Peptide therapy

Short chains of amino acids used as signaling molecules to support follicle activity and calm scalp inflammation. Part of our broader peptide therapy program and chosen case by case.

Red light & low-level laser therapy

Low-level laser or LED light applied to the scalp to support circulation and cellular energy in the follicle. Typically used alongside other treatments rather than on its own. See low-level laser therapy.

Clinical scalp treatments

DE|RIVE scalp serum and AquaFirme XS to clear buildup, hydrate and improve the condition of the scalp the hair has to grow from, usually a course of in-clinic sessions with home maintenance.

Nutrient & hormone support

When labs point to a driver, thyroid, ferritin, vitamin D, or a hormone shift; we treat it directly through functional medicine and hormone health. Often the highest-yield step.

Treatment selection follows a provider assessment. PRP and peptide therapies are not FDA-approved for the treatment of hair loss and are used at physician discretion. These services are not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any disease.

▶Living here

What the desert does to thinning hair.

Arizona doesn't cause hair loss, but it changes what thinning hair looks like and how the scalp behaves, and that matters once you start treating it. A widening part or a thinning crown means scalp skin that used to be covered is now taking direct sun. If you golf at Ken McDonald, hike Pima Canyon, or spend your weekends outside in the Valley the way most of South Tempe does, that exposed scalp needs protecting while it's being treated.

Dry desert air and hard Valley water also leave hair brittle and the scalp dry, which is why breakage often gets mistaken for loss, hair snapping mid-shaft looks a lot like hair falling out. Part of what a scalp assessment does is tell those two apart, because they need completely different answers.

And to settle the question we get asked most: wearing a hat does not cause hair loss. In this climate a hat is protecting your scalp, not thinning it.

▶Honest expectations

What results look like, and how long they take.

Hair grows roughly half an inch a month, so any honest hair-loss plan is measured in months, not weeks. Most people who respond notice changes in shedding first, density much later.

Less shedding first

The earliest sign that something is working is usually less hair coming out, often within the first couple of months, and frequently before anything looks different in the mirror.

Density takes months

Visible thickening, when it happens, generally takes three to six months and a full series, then ongoing maintenance to hold it. Some people respond well, some modestly, and some not at all. Hair grows about half an inch a month, so any honest hair-loss plan is measured in months, not weeks, expect three to six months before a change is visible in the mirror.

Individual results vary and no outcome is guaranteed. Hair loss treatment supports hair and scalp health for appropriate candidates; it is not a cure for baldness and cannot restore hair from scarred follicles.

▶What to expect

Four steps, in order.

01

Consultation & scalp assessment

A physician reviews your history, medications, family pattern and timeline, and examines your scalp and hair to identify what kind of loss you're dealing with.

02

Labs, where they'll help

If your history points to a testable cause, thyroid, iron, vitamin D, hormones, autoimmunity; we run the panel rather than guess. We'll tell you when testing isn't warranted.

03

Your plan, in sequence

Treat the driver first where there is one, then layer in scalp treatment, PRP, microneedling, peptides or red light in a sensible order, with the timeline spelled out before you start.

04

Re-check and adjust

We reassess at set intervals and change course if you're not responding. If a treatment isn't working for you, we'll say so rather than sell you another round of it.

An honest word on hair loss claims

What these treatments do well is support the follicles you still have. PRP and peptide therapies are not FDA-approved for hair loss and are used at physician discretion; the evidence supports them as reasonable options for the right patient rather than as a cure. How much they help depends on how long you have been losing hair and how much follicle remains, and hair lost to scarring alopecia will not regrow. That is why we look first, tell you what is realistic for your pattern, and let you decide from there.

▶Why Pure Body Health

A diagnosis, not just a procedure.

The difference between a hair loss clinic that sells you a package and a physician-led practice in South Tempe that starts with the cause:

We look for the cause first.

Scalp exam, history and labs where they help, because the reason your hair is thinning decides which treatment has a chance of working. (Rather than: pick a treatment off the menu.)

Two licensed physicians.

Named, credentialed naturopathic doctors with Arizona licenses see you and build the plan, not a franchise counter or a rotating staff. (Rather than: a technician or a trichologist.)

Honest about who this won't help.

We'll tell you if you're too far along, if the follicles are scarred, or if the honest answer is that treatment is unlikely to be worth your money. (Rather than: "guaranteed regrowth.")

Built from your labs and your pattern.

Men's pattern loss, postpartum shedding, thyroid-driven thinning and perimenopausal loss get different plans, local, root-cause care since 2015. (Rather than: one protocol for everyone.)

Cost & next step

Hair loss treatment is priced by the plan, not by a single line item, the cost depends on which treatments your physician recommends, how many sessions are involved, and whether labs are part of it. We review all of it with you transparently before anything begins, and we'll tell you honestly if we don't think treatment is worth it in your case.

▶Next step

Start with a consultation.

Bring your questions. You will get an honest read on whether this is the right fit for you, what a plan looks like, and what it costs, with no obligation to book.

▶FAQ

Hair loss treatment, answered.

What causes hair loss?

The most common cause is androgenetic (pattern) hair loss, driven by genetics and hormones, but thyroid disease, low iron, nutrient deficiencies, medications, childbirth, perimenopause, autoimmune alopecia areata, and physical or emotional stress all cause hair loss too. Several of these can overlap in the same person. Because they look similar in the mirror and respond to completely different treatment, identifying which one you're dealing with is the first step.

What blood tests can find the cause of hair loss?

A thyroid panel, ferritin and iron studies, vitamin D, B12, and hormone testing are the labs most likely to explain unexplained hair loss, along with inflammatory and autoimmune markers where the picture suggests it. We also review your medication list, since a number of common drugs cause shedding. Not every case has a lab answer, but when it does, treating that driver does more for your hair than any device or injection.

Which doctor should I see for hair loss?

See a physician who will look for the cause, not just sell a treatment. Dermatologists, naturopathic physicians and some functional medicine practices all treat hair loss. At Pure Body Health in South Tempe you're seen by two licensed naturopathic doctors. Dr. Sarah Stone, ND and Dr. Scott Maymon, ND, MPH, who assess the scalp, review your history, and run labs where they'll help before recommending anything.

What hair loss treatments do you offer in South Tempe?

PRP for the scalp, microneedling with PRP, peptide therapy, red light and low-level laser therapy, and clinical scalp treatments including DE|RIVE and AquaFirme XS, plus direct treatment of nutrient, thyroid and hormone drivers when labs point to one. Treatments are frequently combined, and your physician chooses the combination based on your cause and pattern.

Does PRP work for hair loss?

PRP may help some people with thinning hair by supporting the follicles that are still active, and it works better on thinning hair than on areas that have been smooth for years. It is not FDA-approved for hair loss and is used at physician discretion. It tends to perform best in earlier-stage pattern loss, as part of a series, and alongside treatment of any underlying driver. It cannot restore hair from scarred follicles, and it does not work for everyone.

How many PRP sessions will I need, and when will I see a change?

Scalp PRP is done as a series, typically spaced about a month apart, with maintenance sessions afterward, and most people who respond see reduced shedding before they see visible density. Expect three to six months before a change is noticeable in the mirror. Your physician will give you a specific schedule at your consultation rather than a generic package.

Does red light therapy help hair growth?

Low-level laser and red light therapy may support hair growth for some people with pattern hair loss, and it is generally well tolerated, but it works slowly and is most useful as part of a combined plan rather than on its own. It requires consistency over months to have a chance of helping, and results vary considerably between individuals.

Do peptides help with hair loss?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as signaling molecules, and certain peptides are used to support follicle activity and reduce scalp inflammation. Peptide therapy for hair loss is not FDA-approved and is used at physician discretion, selected case by case. We use it as one component of a plan, not as a standalone answer.

How much do hair loss treatments cost?

Cost depends on which treatments your plan includes, how many sessions are involved, and whether lab work is part of it, so we quote the plan, not a single price. We review costs with you transparently at your consultation before anything starts.

Do you treat women's hair loss, including postpartum and menopause-related thinning?

Yes, women's hair loss is one of the most common reasons patients come to us, and it's where lab work matters most. Postpartum shedding, thyroid disease, low ferritin, perimenopause and female pattern loss all present differently and need different plans. Dr. Sarah Stone, ND leads this work, and treatment often includes hormone support alongside scalp treatment.

Is it too late for me, am I still a candidate?

Generally, the more follicles you still have, the more there is to work with, treatment supports existing follicles rather than creating new ones. Areas that have been completely smooth for years, or hair lost to scarring alopecia, are unlikely to respond. Candidacy is determined by a provider at your consultation, and we'll tell you honestly if we don't think treatment is worth your money.

Does the Arizona sun, hard water, or wearing a hat cause hair loss?

No, hats, hard water and sun exposure do not cause hair loss, though the dry desert air and hard Valley water can leave hair brittle and make breakage look like shedding. Sun does matter once hair thins, because scalp that used to be covered is suddenly exposed and needs protection while it's being treated. Part of a scalp assessment is telling breakage and true hair loss apart, since they call for different treatment.
