Medical weight loss in South Tempe
Medical weight loss at Pure Body Health looks for the reasons the weight is there, hormones, metabolism, insulin, stress, sleep, and gut health, then builds a personalized plan around them. It is led by licensed naturopathic physicians who combine nutrition, metabolic and hormone support, lifestyle coaching, and, where it is medically appropriate, prescription options such as GLP-1 medication.
The point is change you can keep, not a quick number on the scale. GLP-1 medications are one tool among several, prescribed and monitored by a physician for eligible patients, and never a standalone shortcut. This care supports your health, works alongside your other providers, is not a cure, and results vary from person to person.
▶Physician-reviewed
Real medical care, not a fad program.
This is medicine, led by Dr. Sarah Stone, ND (AZ Naturopathic License #15-1496) and Dr. Scott Maymon, ND, MPH (AZ Naturopathic License #15-1497), Arizona-licensed naturopathic physicians. Both trained at the accredited Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (now Sonoran University) in Tempe, and Dr. Maymon brings additional public-health training. Your plan starts with a real medical history and evaluation, a look at the hormones and metabolism behind weight gain, and a review of your current medications.
▶The approach
More Than a Number on the Scale
People have worked hard at their weight for a very long time, and many find that eating less and moving more simply does not do it. That is not a failure of willpower. For a lot of people there is something underneath the weight, a hormonal shift, a sluggish thyroid, insulin resistance, chronic stress, poor sleep, that makes it far harder to lose and far easier to regain.
A healthy weight is about more than how you look. It is linked with lower risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and joint problems, and with better energy, mood, and sleep. Our program is built to help you not just lose weight, but understand why it was there and keep it off, because a number you cannot maintain is not the goal.
The goal is not a crash diet. It is finding what is driving the weight, and building a plan you can actually live with.
▶Sound familiar?
If You Have Tried Everything
Weight that will not move, despite real effort, usually has a reason. You may recognize some of these:
- You have tried every diet, and the weight comes back
- The scale will not move no matter how carefully you eat
- Weight settled in after 40, or around menopause
- Stubborn belly weight that will not budge
- Low energy, cravings, or afternoon crashes
- Weight gain since starting a medication or after pregnancy
- A family history of thyroid, diabetes, or weight struggles
- You feel like your metabolism has stalled
- You have heard about GLP-1 medications and want a medical opinion
- You want a plan led by a physician, not another app
▶Why the weight won't budge
The Reasons Behind Weight Gain
For some people weight comes down to diet and activity. For many others, something underneath is making it harder. Part of our evaluation is finding which of these apply to you.
Hormonal Imbalances
Shifting estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone, including around perimenopause and menopause, can change where and how easily the body stores weight.
Thyroid & Metabolism
An underactive thyroid slows metabolism and makes weight loss harder. It is one of the first things worth checking.
Insulin Resistance
When cells stop responding well to insulin, the body stores more fat and hunger climbs. It is common and very much worth addressing.
Stress & Cortisol
Chronic stress keeps cortisol high, which drives appetite and abdominal weight. Managing it is part of the plan, not an afterthought.
Sleep & Recovery
Too little quality sleep disrupts the hormones that regulate hunger and fullness, making everything else harder.
Gut Health, Medications & History
Gut imbalance, certain medications, and your dietary history all play a part. We take the whole picture into account, and we review everything you take.
If one or more of these is part of your story, addressing it is what makes lasting change possible. We evaluate the drivers, coordinate with your other providers, and refer out when something needs conventional or specialist care.
▶How the program works
A Personalized Plan, Step by Step
Built around your body and your history, not a template, and adjusted as you go.
01
Consultation and evaluation
An extended visit with Dr. Stone or Dr. Maymon covering your goals, history, diet, and the hormonal and metabolic factors behind your weight, with testing where it helps.
02
Nutrition that fits your life
A sustainable eating plan built around your preferences and your metabolism, not a rigid fad diet you cannot keep.
03
Metabolic and hormone support
Where your evaluation points to it, we address the drivers, thyroid, insulin, cortisol, and hormone balance, working alongside our hormone health care.
04
Prescription options, where appropriate
For eligible patients, a physician-prescribed and monitored option such as GLP-1 medication can be part of the plan, alongside the rest, never as a standalone shortcut. More on that just below.
05
Follow-up and accountability
Regular check-ins to track progress, adjust the plan, and support you in keeping the weight off for the long term.
Good to know
GLP-1 Medication, Explained Plainly
GLP-1 medications (such as semaglutide and tirzepatide) work with your body's own appetite signals to help you feel full sooner and eat less. For the right patient they can be a genuinely useful tool, and certain GLP-1 medications are FDA-approved for chronic weight management in eligible adults. We use them as one part of a comprehensive plan, alongside nutrition, metabolic support, and lifestyle, rather than on their own.
Because they are prescription medications, a licensed physician decides with you whether one is appropriate, then prescribes and monitors it. They carry possible side effects, most often digestive ones such as nausea, and they are not right for everyone, including during pregnancy or with certain personal or family medical histories. We will walk through the benefits, the risks, and the costs so your decision is a fully informed one. Results vary.
▶Working with your metabolism
Why Fad Diets Fade, and What Works Instead
With so many diets and programs promising fast results, it is hard to know what actually works. The honest answer is that there is no one-size solution, and the quick fixes tend to be the ones that do not last. Very low-calorie and extreme diets can drop weight fast, but the weight usually returns, and sometimes the metabolism is worse for it.
We take the opposite approach: support and improve your metabolism so your body works with you rather than against you. That means addressing the hormonal and metabolic drivers, feeding your body well rather than starving it, and building habits, movement, sleep, and stress care, that keep the change in place. It is less dramatic week to week, and far more likely to hold.
▶Why Pure Body Health
Physician-Led, Root-Cause, and Honest
There is a lot of noise in weight-loss marketing. Here is what a licensed, physician-led practice adds.
Elsewhere: an app, a coach, or a shot with no medical workup.
A physician runs your plan
A licensed physician evaluates you, orders and interprets testing, and prescribes and monitors any medication.
Elsewhere: medication handed out as the whole answer.
Root cause, not just a shot
We treat the hormones, metabolism, and habits behind the weight, so change has a chance to last.
Elsewhere: dramatic promises and a number on a flyer.
Honest about the tools
We set realistic expectations, explain what each option can and cannot do, and never promise a figure.
Elsewhere: quick loss, then the rebound.
Built to keep it off
The plan is about sustainable change and follow-up, not a crash you cannot maintain.

▶FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is medical weight loss at Pure Body Health?
It is physician-led weight loss that looks for the reasons the weight is there in the first place, rather than a one-size diet. Our licensed naturopathic physicians review your history, hormones, metabolism, and habits, then build a personalized plan that may combine nutrition, metabolic and hormone support, lifestyle coaching, and, where appropriate, prescription options such as GLP-1 medication. The aim is steady change you can keep, not a quick number on the scale. This care supports your health, works alongside your other providers, is not a cure, and results vary.
Do you offer GLP-1 medications like semaglutide or tirzepatide?
Yes, where it is medically appropriate. GLP-1 medications can be part of a comprehensive, physician-led plan for eligible patients. Because they are prescription medications, we determine candidacy after a full evaluation, prescribe and monitor them, and use them alongside nutrition, metabolic support, and lifestyle changes rather than as a standalone fix. They are not right for everyone, and results vary from person to person.
Are GLP-1 medications safe, and are they FDA-approved?
Certain GLP-1 medications are FDA-approved for chronic weight management in eligible adults and have been studied in large clinical trials. Like any prescription medication they carry possible side effects, most commonly digestive ones such as nausea, and they are not appropriate for everyone. That is exactly why they are prescribed and monitored by a licensed physician, with candidacy decided after reviewing your history. We walk through the benefits, the risks, and the costs so you can make an informed decision.
How much weight will I lose?
There is no honest one-size answer, and we will not promise a number. How much you lose depends on your starting point, your biology, the plan you follow, and which tools fit your case. Our focus is steady, sustainable change and keeping it off, and we set realistic expectations with you at your consultation.
Do I have to take medication to join the program?
Not at all. Medication is one option among several, and many people reach their goals through nutrition, metabolic and hormone support, and lifestyle changes. We build the plan around what fits your body, your history, and your preferences, and we talk through every option before anything is decided.
Why do I keep gaining the weight back?
Because most diets treat the symptom, not the cause. If hormones, thyroid function, insulin resistance, stress, sleep, or gut health are part of why the weight is there, a short-term diet will not hold. We work to understand and address those drivers so the change has a better chance of lasting, which is the whole point of a root-cause approach.
What causes weight gain besides diet and exercise?
Quite a lot can. Hormonal shifts, thyroid problems, insulin resistance, chronic stress and high cortisol, poor sleep, gut health, certain medications, and life stages such as perimenopause and menopause can all make weight harder to lose. Part of our evaluation is figuring out which of these apply to you, so the plan targets the real drivers.
Is medical weight loss covered by insurance, and what does it cost?
Coverage varies. Some evaluation and lab work may be billable to insurance, while weight-management programs and certain medications often are not. We are transparent about costs before anything is ordered and will walk through the plan and the investment at your consultation.
Who is a candidate, and who should not take a GLP-1 medication?
Candidacy is determined individually after a full evaluation. GLP-1 medications, in particular, are not appropriate during pregnancy or possible pregnancy, with certain thyroid cancers or a family history of them, with a history of pancreatitis, or alongside some other conditions and medications. A licensed physician reviews your history and decides, with you, what is safe and suitable.
Do you serve Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert, and the East Valley?
Yes. Pure Body Health is in South Tempe, just off I-10 at Elliot Road on South Priest Drive, and we see weight-management patients from across the Valley, including Phoenix, Ahwatukee, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Scottsdale.
