Naturopathic mental health support looks for the physical drivers of how you feel (gut health, thyroid and other hormones, blood sugar, nutrient status, inflammation, and sleep) and addresses them to help support mood, calm, and resilience. At Pure Body Health in South Tempe, two licensed naturopathic doctors provide this as whole-person care built around your labs.
This complements therapy and psychiatric care: it doesn’t replace them. We work alongside your counselor, therapist, or psychiatrist (and are glad to coordinate), and we never ask anyone to stop a prescribed medication. It supports general emotional wellbeing and is not a treatment or cure for any mental health condition.

▶Physician-reviewed
Care led by two licensed naturopathic doctors.
Your plan is directed by our physicians, Dr. Scott Maymon, ND, MPH (AZ Naturopathic License #15-1497) and Dr. Sarah Stone, ND (AZ Naturopathic License #15-1496). Support that touches how you feel should come from named, credentialed physicians who read your labs and coordinate with your mental health team, not students or an anonymous portal.
▶What it is
The body affects the mind.
How you feel isn’t only in your head: it’s connected to your body. Blood-sugar swings, thyroid and hormone shifts, an inflamed or imbalanced gut, poor sleep, and low nutrient levels can all show up as low mood, anxiousness, brain fog, or burnout. When those physical drivers go unaddressed, it’s harder to feel like yourself.
We use a whole-person assessment and advanced lab testing to find those contributors, then support them with nutrition, targeted supplements, and sleep and stress strategies: woven together with the therapy and psychiatric care you may already have.
We treat the whole person, and we stay in our lane, working alongside your mental health team.
▶Is this you?
When you just don’t feel like yourself.
- Persistent stress
- Low or flat mood
- Feeling anxious or on edge
- Trouble sleeping
- Burnout & exhaustion
- Brain fog & poor focus
- Irritability
- Low motivation
- Feeling “off” for no clear reason
- Want a natural, whole-person approach
▶What we look at
The physical drivers behind how you feel.
Instead of stopping at the symptom, we investigate the body systems that shape mood, calm, and focus.
Gut-brain & inflammation
The gut and brain are in constant conversation. We look at gut health, the microbiome, and inflammation: common, overlooked influences on mood and anxiousness.
Hormones, thyroid & blood sugar
Thyroid issues, cortisol and stress hormones, sex-hormone shifts, and blood-sugar swings can all feel a lot like a mood or anxiety problem. We test and support them.
Nutrients & sleep
Shortfalls in vitamin D, B12, iron, magnesium, and omega-3s (plus poor sleep) can weigh on how you feel. We address the basics that are often missed.
Testing is chosen after an assessment. This is supportive, complementary care and is not a treatment or cure for any mental health condition.
▶What it may help with
Where whole-person support may help.
Steadier mood & calm
Addressing hormones, blood sugar, and nutrient gaps may help you feel steadier and more resilient day to day, for appropriate candidates.
Better sleep & focus
Support for sleep, stress, and the gut-brain connection may help with rest, clarity, and focus alongside your mental health care.
Individual results vary. This supports general emotional wellbeing: it is not a treatment or cure for any mental health condition, and it works alongside, not instead of, therapy and psychiatric care.
▶What to expect
Four steps, done right.
01
Whole-person assessment
A thorough intake and advanced labs (hormones, thyroid, blood sugar, inflammation, nutrients, gut and sleep) to find the physical contributors behind how you feel.
02
Connect the dots
We review results with you and map how your body and your mood are linked, so the plan targets real drivers instead of guesswork.
03
Your individualized plan
Nutrition, targeted professional-grade supplements, and sleep and stress support: matched to your labs and goals.
04
Coordinate & adjust
We recheck what mattered, adjust as you go, and (with your okay) coordinate with your therapist or psychiatrist so everyone’s aligned.
A complement to mental health care, not a replacement
Naturopathic mental health support works alongside therapy, counseling, and psychiatric care: it does not replace them, and it is not psychotherapy or psychiatric treatment. We don’t manage psychiatric medications, and you should never stop or change a prescribed medication without talking to the prescriber who ordered it. These services are not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any disease or mental health condition. This page is educational and is not medical advice.
If you are thinking about harming yourself or are in crisis, please don’t wait. In the U.S., call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. Support is available right now.
▶Why Pure Body Health
Whole-person support, done honestly.
The difference between a buried “general medicine” add-on and dedicated, physician-led mental health support in South Tempe:
Buried under “general medicine”
A dedicated focus
Mental health support is its own conversation here, with time to look at the whole picture, not a rushed add-on.
Students or telehealth-only
Two physicians, in person
Named, licensed NDs see you in a real South Tempe clinic, not a rotating student or a portal-only visit.
“Resolve your anxiety” claims
Honest & complementary
We support your wellbeing and coordinate with your mental health team, no overpromises, no replacing your care.
Meds or nothing
Address the body too
We look at the physical drivers (hormones, gut, nutrients, sleep) that talk therapy and medication don’t reach.
▶FAQ
Naturopathic mental health support, answered.
What is naturopathic mental health support?
It looks for the physical drivers of how you feel (gut health, thyroid and other hormones, blood sugar, nutrient status, inflammation, and sleep) and addresses them with nutrition, targeted supplements, and lifestyle support to help support mood, calm, and resilience. It’s complementary care alongside therapy and psychiatric treatment, not in place of it.
Does this replace my therapist or psychiatrist?
No. Our support complements the care of your therapist, counselor, or psychiatrist: it doesn’t replace psychotherapy, psychiatric care, or medication. We’re glad to coordinate with your existing providers so everyone works from the same plan.
Do you prescribe or stop psychiatric medications?
We don’t manage psychiatric medications, and you should never stop or change a prescribed medication without talking to the prescriber who ordered it. If medication questions come up, we help you bring them to the right provider.
What do you test for?
Depending on your history, testing may include thyroid and other hormones, blood sugar, inflammation, and nutrient status (vitamin D, B12, iron, magnesium, omega-3s): plus a look at gut health and sleep.
How do gut health and hormones affect mood?
The gut and brain communicate closely (the gut-brain axis), and hormone and blood-sugar swings, thyroid issues, and nutrient shortfalls can all influence mood, anxiousness, focus, and sleep. Addressing these may help you feel steadier, alongside your mental health care.
What concerns can this help support?
People come to us for support with everyday stress, low mood, feeling anxious or on edge, poor sleep, burnout, brain fog, and low motivation: especially when they want a natural, whole-person approach alongside conventional care. It’s supportive care, not a treatment or cure for any mental health condition.
Is it evidence-based and safe?
We focus on well-tolerated, evidence-informed measures (nutrition, sleep and stress support, and appropriately dosed supplements) chosen after an assessment. Any therapy carries potential risks your provider reviews with you, and it’s not appropriate for everyone.
What if I’m in crisis?
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, this page isn’t the right resource in that moment. In the U.S., call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. Please reach out: support is available right now.
