Natural sports medicine treats sports and overuse injuries and builds performance without defaulting to surgery or masking pain with drugs. At Pure Body Health in South Tempe, two licensed naturopathic physicians combine regenerative injections (like PRP and prolotherapy), manual therapy, recovery support, and nutrition to help you get back to what you love: for athletes of all levels and active adults.
Non-surgical first, but not instead of a surgeon when you need one. We’re not emergency care; we refer fractures and surgical injuries, and coordinate with your PT and orthopedist. It supports recovery and performance and is not a guaranteed fix for any injury.

▶Physician-reviewed
Care led by two licensed naturopathic doctors.
Your care is directed by our physicians, Dr. Scott Maymon, ND, MPH (AZ Naturopathic License #15-1497) and Dr. Sarah Stone, ND (AZ Naturopathic License #15-1496). Sports injuries deserve named, credentialed physicians who see it through, not a rotating student clinic or a surgery-first assembly line.
▶What it is
Recover & perform, without rushing to surgery.
Most sports injuries don’t need an operating room, and most active people don’t want opioids or an indefinite “rest and see.” Natural sports medicine sits in that gap: a physician-led, non-surgical approach that supports the body’s own repair and gets you moving again.
We combine regenerative injections (PRP, prolotherapy), hands-on manual therapy, recovery support like IV and nutrition, and root-cause factors (inflammation, sleep, and fueling) that shape how fast you heal and how well you perform. When a case needs imaging, PT, or a surgeon, we coordinate that too.
A whole-athlete plan: treat the injury, support the body that has to heal it.
▶Is this you?
When you just want to get back to it.
- A nagging injury that won’t resolve
- Tendon or ligament pain
- Joint pain or stiffness
- Recurring strains & sprains
- Told you “might need surgery”
- Want to avoid the operating room
- Slow to recover after training
- Overtraining & fatigue
- Chasing better performance
- Prefer a natural, drug-free approach
▶What we do
Injury recovery & performance, the whole-athlete way.
A physician-led toolkit that goes beyond “rest, ice, and a referral.”
Injury recovery
Regenerative injections (PRP, prolotherapy) to support healing in tendons, ligaments, and joints, plus manual therapy: a conservative path that may help you avoid unnecessary surgery, for appropriate candidates.
Performance & recovery
Physician-formulated IV and nutrition support, plus labs for the things that quietly limit athletes (iron, vitamin D, hormones, and recovery markers) to help you train and bounce back better.
Non-surgical & drug-free first
We favor conservative, root-cause care over opioids or an early trip to the OR, and we refer promptly for imaging, PT, or a surgeon when your injury calls for it.
Care is individualized after a physician assessment. We are not emergency care; fractures and surgical injuries are referred.
▶What it may help with
Where natural sports medicine may help.
Bounce back & build
Regenerative and recovery support may help you heal a stubborn injury and rebuild strength, without masking pain, for appropriate candidates.
Stay in your sport
Whole-athlete care (recovery, nutrition, and root-cause factors) may help you keep training and performing at the level you want.
Individual results vary. This supports recovery and performance for appropriate candidates: it is not a guaranteed fix, is not emergency or surgical care, and is only recommended when clinically appropriate.
▶What to expect
Four steps, done right.
01
Assess the whole athlete
A physician evaluates your injury and movement (and, when useful, labs) to understand what’s hurt and what’s slowing your recovery.
02
A non-surgical plan
Regenerative injections, manual therapy, recovery support, and nutrition: matched to your injury and goals.
03
Coordinate your care
We loop in physical therapy, imaging, or an orthopedic surgeon when your case needs it, so nothing important gets missed.
04
Rebuild & optimize
As you heal, we shift toward performance and prevention: recovery, fueling, and the habits that keep you in your sport.
Non-surgical care, not emergency or surgical care
Natural sports medicine is a conservative, non-surgical approach: it doesn’t replace emergency care or surgery when those are needed. If you have a suspected fracture, a severe or acute injury, or a case that needs imaging or an operation, we’ll refer you promptly and coordinate your care. Regenerative options aren’t right for every injury, candidacy is determined by a physician, results vary, and these services are not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any disease. This page is educational and is not medical advice.
▶Why Pure Body Health
Whole-athlete care the ortho mill skips.
The difference between a surgery-first clinic (or a page-two teaching clinic) and physician-led natural sports medicine in South Tempe:
Surgery-first ortho
Non-surgical first
We start with conservative, regenerative options and refer for surgery only when it’s truly the right call.
Students or rotating clinicians
Named attending physicians
Two AZ-licensed NDs see your case through, not a teaching-clinic rotation of trainees.
PT or chiro only
Physician-led, full toolkit
Regenerative injections, recovery, nutrition, and labs under one roof, and we coordinate with your PT.
Mask the pain
Root-cause & drug-free
We support real healing and address what’s slowing it, not just an anti-inflammatory and a shrug.
▶FAQ
Natural sports medicine, answered.
What is natural (naturopathic) sports medicine?
It treats sports and overuse injuries and supports performance without defaulting to surgery or masking pain with drugs. Two naturopathic physicians combine regenerative injections (PRP, prolotherapy), manual therapy, recovery support, and nutrition, and coordinate with PT, imaging, and surgeons when needed.
Do you perform surgery?
No. We’re a non-surgical, drug-free-first practice and not emergency care. We refer fractures and injuries that need a surgeon or imaging, while helping you avoid unnecessary surgery where a conservative, regenerative approach is reasonable.
Can PRP or regenerative injections help a sports injury?
For appropriate candidates, PRP and prolotherapy use your own biology to support the natural healing response in tendons, ligaments, and joints. Whether they fit your case is a physician decision; results vary and they’re not a guaranteed fix. See our regenerative injection therapy page for details.
Is this only for competitive athletes?
No. We care for athletes of all levels and active adults: weekend warriors, runners, lifters, and anyone with a nagging injury or a goal to move and recover better.
Do you replace my physical therapist or orthopedist?
No: we complement them. We coordinate with PT, imaging, and orthopedic surgeons and focus on the physician-led, naturopathic pieces that round out your care.
What injuries and issues do you help with?
Common reasons people see us include tendon and ligament injuries, joint pain, sprains and strains, overuse and slow-healing injuries, and recovery and performance concerns: individualized after an assessment.
Do you offer recovery support like IV therapy for athletes?
Yes. Physician-formulated IV therapy and nutrition can support hydration, recovery, and nutrient repletion around training and competition, for appropriate candidates.
Is it evidence-based and safe?
We favor well-tolerated, evidence-informed measures and are honest about what each option can and can’t do. Any procedure carries potential risks your provider reviews with you, and candidacy is determined by a physician.
